Water reservoirs

A VapourGuard™ reservoir cover is an ideal way to increase the efficiency of dams and larger water reservoirs. Both water quantity and quality are preserved, leading to savings in resources, time and money.

  #

Water quantity

This is dramatically increased as water evaporation is practically eliminated. The reservoir cover also acts as a rainwater harvester due to the holes punched into the material, allowing rainfall to drain into the water storage area. This is what makes VapourGuard™ superior to other anti-evaporation systems which do not have a rain harvesting feature. The advantages combined mean the water tank’s efficiency is maximised in terms of optimum water storage capacity.

For a reservoir 20 metres wide, 10 metres long and 3 metre deep, this area would contain 600,000 litres of water. In the UK, yearly minimum evaporation loses of 1 meter of water depth per year mean an estimated 200,000 litres/44,000 gallons of water is being saved.

Water quality

A VapourGuard™ reservoir cover offers improved water quality by preventing airborne debris entering the water. This reduces maintenance and blockages in irrigation equipment. Also, because certain types of algae are harmful to livestock (particularly young animals), by removing the threat of algae, safe drinking water can be guaranteed as well as the highest quality of irrigation water for crops.

Installation

A VapourGuard™ reservoir cover can be installed over smaller water reservoir areas of up to 1,000m² (as one section). Covers up to 3,000m² are available for larger water reservoirs but this may require onsite fabrication by a specialist dam liner fabricator. If welding the VapourGuard™ material onsite, a clean and level area and suitable weather conditions are required.

Depending on the size of the dam or water reservoir, a VapourGuard™ reservoir cover can either be retro-fitted or implemented at the dam construction stage.

The VapourGuard™ reservoir cover is made from lightweight material, simply requiring adequate manpower (or a standard forklift) for installation.

To ensure the simplest installation, the site must be clear of debris around the perimeter. The VapourGuard™ reservoir cover can be secured into position by placing the material into anchor trenches along the perimeter of the dam or water reservoir. Permanent anchorage around the water storage area will also ensure the VapourGuard™ reservoir cover remains secure in adverse weather conditions.

To ensure the reservoir cover is supported when water levels fluctuate, an even distribution of excess material should be left across the water storage area.
