The VapourGuard™ material

VapourGuard™ benefits:

• Eliminate water evaporation by 98%+

• Collect rainfall

• Inhibit algae growth

• Reflect the sun’s heat

• Reduce contamination

• 6 year pro rata warranty

Water quality

Your water is kept cooler and cleaner

The light top surface of the VapourGuard™ geomembrane material is designed to reflect the sun’s heat away from the water’s surface area. The dark underside of the geomembrane material is designed to prevent light penetrating the surface, inhibiting algae growth in the contained water.

Reduce contamination

By virtually sealing off the entire surface area, collection of air born debris in the water is substantially reduced.

This prevents blockages in filters and irrigation system, reducing time and money spent on the maintenance thereof. Furthermore, bacteria/algae growth is prevented, something that can be harmful to animals and crops.

Water quantity

Collect rainfall

Small drainage holes allow rainwater to be harvested through the VapourGuard™ geomembrane cover.

Eliminate water evaporation by 98%+
If storing water for crop irrigation, agriculture or hydroponics, for example, millions of litres of water are being lost annually through evaporation where the water is not sealed off or protected from the natural elements. A VapourGuard™ geomembrane cover eliminates this sizeable loss by 98%+.

Research carried out in collaboration with Brighton and London Metropolitan Universities proved, under conservative heat and wind conditions, that the average loss per square meter of water surface area in the UK is in the region of 1,000 litres (one cubic meter) per year. This figure is considerably higher in hotter climates.

VapourGuard™ enables the maximisation of ‘free’ water (rainfall), saving money and extending the length of time that the water can be drawn from the farm tank or dam.

The material

Strong welded seams

The VapourGuard™ geomembrane material is manufactured with a weld edge to join sections of the cover together. Hot wedge welding is used to create strong seams for covering expanses of water.

Long lifespan
The VapourGuard™ geomembrane material has an expected lifespan of 10 years in Western Europe. In harsh UV light conditions, such as Australia and South Africa, a shorter lifespan of 6 to 8 years can be expected. This assumes there are no corrosive chemicals in the water area being covered. If corrosive chemicals are present this will significantly reduce the product’s lifespan.

6 year material warranty
The VapourGuard™ geomembrane material has a 6 year pro rata manufacturer’s warranty against UV breakdown due to sunlight exposure. The material has an expected lifespan of 6 to 8 years in harsh UV light conditions of Australia.

Environmental Benefits
During its lifespan, a VapourGuard™ geomembrane cover conserves water. At the end of its lifespan it is 100% recyclable (LDPE 4).

Smart Approved WaterMark

The Smart Approved WaterMark (SAWM) is Australia’s outdoor water saving labelling program for products and services that help to reduce water use around the home. The VapourGuard™ material has been accredited with the Smart Approved Watermark for Rainwater Harvesting under the heading of Dam Cover.
